Society of Geoscientiests and Environmental Engineers
This student society was founded on 24th November 2008, and it was approved by SEG Chairman Committee on February 23th, 2009.

Society members

The objective of this organization is to promote interest and knowledge in sciences of environment, geology and geophysics, and to promote friendship and cooperation among all interested in the mentioned sciences. It is affiliated as a Student Section of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

Society of Geoscientists and Environmental Engineers started with 15 members, now we have 25 members and we are expecting 20 more with beginning of the new school year.

We are well organized group and thanks to the great help and cooperation with the AGS (Association of Geophysicists of Serbia) and its President Prof.dr.Snezana Komatina-Petrovic, also known as a SEG Regional Coordinator for Europe and woman with million ideas, we had opportunity to be involved in projects like the 5th Congress of Balkan Geophysical Society, Side Event with Director of UNESCO: CCS in Balkan region, Promotion of Geothermal energy in 5 cities in Serbia, Belgrade Ecology and Energy Conference and Fair...

Our Student Chapter, together with Marko Vanic and Student Chapter from FMG (Faculty of Mining and Geology), was part of LOC for events and projects that AGS organized.

5th Congress of Balkan Geophysical Society

Let’s start with the 5th Congress of Balkan Geophysical Society, it was our first big project to deal with. Congress was held in May this year and hosted by city of Belgrade, Serbia. As a part of the LOC (Local organizing committee) our Student Chapter was helping with: program making, technical support, poster presentation, website design, organizing young children as special guests, participation in SEG Challenge Bowl, organizing Gala Diner and Side Event participation.

Opening ceremony
It was great experience for our young team and good start for the future organizations. Listening and learning from such a lecturer like Dr.Aldo Vesnaver (SEG) is or having opportunity to learn from Dr.Peter Nederlof, Dr.Alfred Frasheri and others.

President of our Student Chapter and LOC were participating actively in panel discussions together with Presidents of the Geophysical Societies from Balkan region and on the other side representatives from UNESCO, Director Engelbert Ruoss, and his first assistant Iulia Nechifor.

IV Conference of Ecology and Energy, Belgrade

The last project that we were participating in, was Conference of Ecology and Energy, held this month in Belgrade. Our team, together with AGS and Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Sciences, as part of organization was planning the booth set up, poster design and printing, presentation preparation. Our main goal was to involve young children and for that purpose we had different program and different age children each day.

The first day, our guests were two groups of children - children from British kinder garden and group of children without parents, both groups from 4 to 6 years old. Kids were looking the presentation about planet Earth, presentation about how water is going through different layers (ground, rocks, sand, sugar), digging the dinosaur from the cube filed with ground...

Working with youngest ages is important for the future of our Planet.
The second day, we had two groups of children from elementary school (age 12), which were organized to actively participate in presentation about Earth, plate tectonics, magma, volcano activities. After the presentation, 20 min quiz about what the children learned was organized.

The third day, our guests were two groups of children age 16 – Secondary School of Geosciences and Secondary school of Architecture. Both groups had movie presentation about Climate Changes, CO2, impact of geological factors, and short quiz after that.

This project that we organized was complete success because:

• first, children were very interested in topics and very happy to be involved in our program, and
• the second - at the end of the Conference, we made an agreement with kinder garden, both elementary schools and middle schools to have our students as lecturers and guests two times per month, where we will have presentations for children.
